چکیده

The paper details the integration of a method for the analysis of interlock systems with a software support system for HAZOP analysis. The proposed software aims to enhance the potential of HAZOP in terms of depth and ef®ciency of the analysis. This enhancement is reached through the continuation of the hazard and operability analysis, limited to a group of events which may hold high risks for the plant and/or surrounding environment. The analysis technique of the emergency interlock systems and other plant protection measures proposed by the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) of the American Institution of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has been assumed as a starting point. The system carries out interactively HAZOP analysis of a plant and identi®es the presence of possible interlock actions through the analysis of the plant P & I diagram and then visualises the individual interlock systems starting the design phase in which it is possible to analyse and change interactively the single interlocks systems, in order to obtain the required reliability. q 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Integration of HAZOP and FMEA analysis

Some results of the implementation of a new support tool for automated hazard analysis are presented in this paper. We describe in detail the further progresses on the application of intelligent systems to the hazard analysis and especially to the HAZOP and FMEA analysis. A previously developed program, that allows the automatic generation of the report of the HAZOP analysis as regards the dete...

Learning HAZOP expert system by case-based reasoning and ontology

Safety is an important issue in process design and operation in the chemical process industry (CPI). It is even more critical for modern chemical manufacturing processes, which are either operated under extreme conditions to achieve maximum economic profit, or are highly flexible. The importance of safety analysis in process operation is well recognized after occurrence of several tragic accide...

An automated system for batch hazard and operability studies

A widely used hazard identification technique within the process industry is HAZOP (hazard and operability study). To overcome the repetitive and time-consuming nature of the technique automated systems are being developed. This work considers batch processes, in which material undergoes processing in distinct stages within the plant equipment items according to a set of operating procedures, r...

ExpHAZOP: Knowledge-based expert system to conduct automated HAZOP analysis

HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) is a preliminary and systematic approach for identifying hazards and suggesting hazard mitigation measures in a process facility. A knowledge-based expert system, ExpHAZOP, has been developed to automate the manual HAZOP analysis and accelerate the process. ExpHAZOP is comprised of a graphical user interface (GUI), a knowledge-base and an inference engine. One of ...

Experience with the application of HAZOP to computer-based systems

This paper summarises the experience gained from application of Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) and related techniques to four computer-based systems. Emphasis is placed on working practices and the integration of HAZOP-style analysis into a safety-oriented lifecycle. Two of the case studies are described in some detail. An industrial study is used to investigate working practices, highl...
